The concept of slushy machine

What is a slushy machine? You may have heard this type of machine by other names, such as a slush machine, a slushie machine or a granita machine. Whichever name you prefer, one thing is certain: slushy machine are specialist blenders designed specifically for making slush, smoothies, frappes and other frozen drinks that are popular with customers. They use a highly efficient motor and unique blending blades to blend water-sugar mixes, fruit juices, cocktails or powdered drink mixtures and freeze them well into slushy or smoothies for customers to drink.

The slush machine is very easy to operate, it usually uses water to make smoothies from scratch, which means you don't need to prepare ice for some sweet treats, you just need to add a concentrated liquid or powdered drink mix to the container to produce smoothies. According to the filling method they can be divided into
1. Brewing type

This type of machine its required to fill manually by pouring a liquid product mixture into a tank of water, or brewing in a cylinder to make more frozen drinks. It is usually easy to operate and less expensive than other types of machine. As there is no automatic filling system, this means fewer moving parts and the cost of troubleshooting will be reduced. However, it has to have employees to make the mixture and the labour costs are higher. Because the slurry must be used in its entirety before it can be re-brewed and then wait another 10-15 minutes, some customers may be lost during this time. 

 2. Liquid auto-fill type

The liquid auto-fill granita machine features a reservoir to hold the liquid product mixture and automatically refills the main bowl when needed. This model allows drinks to be mixed automatically, thus saving a lot of staff labour while ensuring a more consistent product. The disadvantage, however, is that it requires an external pump to supply the water.

 3.Powder automatic filling type

Powder auto-fill slushy machines also have a reservoir for the powdered product mixture and automatically combine the mixture with water inside the machine to save refilling time. It has similar advantages and disadvantages to the liquid automatic filling type.

 

4. Frozen cocktail machines

What the slushy machines can make?

1. Smoothies

While traditional smoothies are made from a mixture of water, ice and sweeteners, with a slush machine you simply add a mixture of water and coloured syrup, turn on the freezing mode and wait 10-15 minutes before serving your customers a smoothie. It is very important to get the ratio of water to sugar right. More sugar means slower freezing times, but if there isn't enough sugar, it will result in rougher drinks and larger ice crystals, which can freeze your machine. 2. Frozen carbonated drinks

Slush machines can also provide frozen carbonated drinks. Add as many carbonated drinks as you want to the machine, for example, Sprite, Coke, soda, etc. You can put water, carbon dioxide and flavoured syrup into the bowl and run it through the freezing mode to cool it down to below freezing temperature. Alternatively, you can simply pour the bottled carbonated drink into the bowl, it doesn't need any more water or syrup as it is already blended, so you can simply turn on the freeze mode and wait for it to freeze to a slushy consistency.

 

3. Freezing non-carbonated drinks

Frozen non-carbonated drinks or FUB drinks are a great way to offer something different to your customers. They are made by combining flavoured syrups with other ingredients such as ginger ale or lemonade and then freezing them. The result is a refreshing and tasty drink that is perfect for hot summer days.FUB drinks offer a unique texture and flavour as they are not as cold or slushy as FCB, but still offer a refreshing coolness and sweetness. Frozen no-carb drinks come in a variety of flavours, including strawberry, orange and peach.

 

4. Frozen alcoholic beverages

Some machines are equipped to handle alcoholic products. However, you need to read up on your local food service laws as some areas do not allow alcohol in the machine. Also alcohol slows down the freezing speed and lengthens the freezing time, so you may produce fewer smoothies per hour if alcohol is added to the slushy machine. It is also important to check the manufacturer's user manual to ensure that there are no special maintenance requirements or procedures for the frozen cocktails in the machine.

If you want to serve frozen cocktails to your customers but don't want to put alcohol in the machine, there are other options available to you. Simply mix up a neutral base granita and when you draw the drink from the tank, add any flavoured white wine your customers want and mix well with a stirring stick. This approach also allows you to offer different flavoured cocktails, rather than limiting yourself to one specific drink per tank of granita.

 

5. Dairy-based products

Certain machines are certified to offer dairy-based products such as blended milkshakes, smoothies. Serving dairy-based frozen drinks requires more routine cleaning of your equipment. You should empty the bowl of leftovers daily and clean and sanitise the inside and outside of the machine to prevent the growth of bacteria that could affect the food safety of your customers. A machine must be approved to use dairy-based ingredients, so check your user manual to confirm that your machine is qualified to serve dairy-based cold beverages.
